Description:
Hitachi Energy is seeking an Account Director (Utility) responsible for driving growth, customer satisfaction, and strategic partnerships with key utility clients. The position manages the entire customer relationship—ensuring high-value solutions, long-term collaboration, and alignment between customer needs and Hitachi Energy’s technology portfolio.
This role involves strategic account leadership, team management, and cross-functional coordination across Hitachi Energy’s business units to maximize value, revenue, and customer trust.
The ideal candidate combines strategic business acumen, technical understanding, and leadership skills to influence decisions at the executive level and lead a team to success.
Customer-Facing Responsibilities:
Serve as a long-term strategic partner to senior executives within utility accounts
Execute the strategic account management process
Represent Hitachi Energy as a trusted advisor, delivering high-value, technology-driven solutions
Leverage Hitachi Energy’s full portfolio to solve customer business challenges
Ensure high ethical standards and integrity in all transactions
Internal (Hitachi Energy) Responsibilities:
Achieve or exceed order and revenue targets
Maximize customer satisfaction, loyalty, and share of wallet
Coordinate with business units to deliver unified value propositions
Serve as the central contact for resolving customer issues
Ensure seamless communication and collaboration across departments
Primary Tasks:
Manage total customer relationship and maintain multi-level engagement, including C-suite
Apply business acumen to understand customer industry trends and challenges
Lead account planning, executive relationship strategies, and opportunity prioritization
Facilitate and lead complex negotiations and project development
Direct “capture teams” and guide solution delivery across projects
Leadership & Coaching:
Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports
Foster team selling and collaboration within a matrixed organization
Coach team members on sales process excellence
Active Projects & Internal Communication:
Oversee and participate in ongoing customer projects
Represent client needs internally across Hitachi Energy divisions
Provide regular reports and contribute to account strategy sessions
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business (required)
MBA preferred
12+ years of total experience, including 5+ years selling to investor-owned utilities
Proven success in strategic account management and complex sales
Experience working in matrixed, multinational organizations
Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills
Strong business acumen and relationship management expertise
Strategic thinker with ability to influence executive-level stakeholders
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and negotiation skills
Proven ability to lead teams and mentor others
Deep understanding of energy sector trends and customer needs
Work Arrangement: On-site
