Acoustic Engineer

The Wilson Alaska Technical Center (WATC) is searching for a Seismo-Acoustic Engineer to join our engineering team in installing, maintaining, and improving seismic and infrasound stations around the globe - from Antarctica to the remote Pacific Islands. This position will help maintain stations through fieldwork and remote monitoring and troubleshooting to ensure high data availability and quality. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to conduct field-based research and field support.
• Ability to lead staff working on externally and internally funded projects.
• Knowledge of seismic and acoustic sensor design, construction, and calibration.
• Knowledge of DC power systems.
• Knowledge of radio telemetry and fiber optic communications.
• Knowledge of IT protocols and topology.
• Ability to develop engineering solutions to infrasound/seismic problems and implement them in the field or in a laboratory.
• Ability to develop and maintain electronic and computer systems for data acquisition and telemetry in the field.
• Ability to communicate program objectives and results effectively to managerial, technical, and non-scientific personnel.

Required Experience & Education:

• B.S. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or closely related field, or A.S. in electrical engineering and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• IT related with at least 4 years’ experience, and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• A valid driver's license and driving record that is in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria.
