Description:

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), through its Knight Cardiovascular Institute (KCVI), is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate (APP) to serve as an Instructor in Cardiovascular Medicine. KCVI is nationally recognized as a premier center for cardiovascular clinical care, translational research, and professional training, integrating cutting-edge science with patient-centered healthcare.

The APP will play a central role in supporting the General Cardiology section by providing outpatient consultations, follow-up care, and teaching responsibilities. This position offers the unique opportunity to engage in advanced patient care while contributing to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outpatient initial consultations and manage follow-up care.

  • Provide specialized care in valvular heart disease and post-procedural cardiac management.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary providers and coordinate care with community agencies and external healthcare providers.

  • Support patients and families in developing strong self-management skills.

  • Teach and mentor medical trainees (students, residents, fellows) in cardiovascular care standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Master’s Degree in Nursing (MS) or equivalent, with BSN.

  • Physician Associate (PA): Successful completion of an accredited PA program and national certification.

  • Active Oregon state license at the time of hire (NP or PA).

  • For NP: ANCC or NAP Board Certification, with Prescriptive Authority (DEA license).

  • For PA: Valid Oregon PA license under Cardiovascular Medicine MD, with membership in professional organizations.

Experience:

  • NP: 3–5 years nursing experience, ideally in cardiovascular medicine.

  • PA: Minimum 1 year of professional experience, preferably in cardiovascular medicine.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies.

  • Strong patient evaluation, consultative management, and care coordination skills.

  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and collaborative multidisciplinary care.
