Ai Security Engineer

Description:

The Automation AI Security Engineer will play a critical role in securing the City of New York’s systems specifically for the MyCity Portal development project. The core responsibility involves aiding the automation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities integrated with cybersecurity tools to protect critical infrastructure. This role includes testing and hardening the AI ecosystem by designing robust frameworks aimed at defending City systems and data against emerging cyber threats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with software development teams to embed security and responsible AI usage throughout the lifecycle of AI applications, including planning, design, implementation, testing, and validation.

• Engage with NYC Cyber Command leadership and teams such as engineering, architecture, application security, and incident response to ensure alignment and effective threat management.

• Design and implement AI-powered solutions to enhance security across multiple platforms.

• Develop security content for tools used by the Threat Management team to maintain continuous operational security.

• Deploy machine learning models for threat detection, incident response, and security orchestration.

• Integrate custom technologies to improve alert accuracy and notification efficiency within the Threat Management team.

• Create comprehensive documentation covering code, processes, and services.

• Utilize REST and SOAP APIs from Cyber Command’s platforms to enhance threat detection and response capabilities.

• Perform a variety of tests—functional, regression, performance, and usability—to assess AI algorithm behavior and performance.

• Manage special projects as assigned.

Mandatory Skills/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• Extensive experience (8+ years) in cybersecurity or information security with strong Python development skills.

• Proven ability to write automated test scripts, develop test cases, and analyze results using programming languages and testing frameworks.

• Expertise leveraging REST APIs for tool and platform integration.

• Strong independent learning ability for new technologies, frameworks, and processes.

• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

• Up-to-date knowledge of software testing and AI developments and best practices.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail.

• Familiarity with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).

• Experience supporting security teams from a technical perspective.

• Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.

• Flexibility and willingness to learn new technologies.
