Description:

Groundwork Hudson Valley, in collaboration with Conservation Legacy, is seeking a dedicated Stewards VISTA/AmeriCorps Member to serve a full-time term from July 14, 2025, to July 13, 2026. This role is part of the national AmeriCorps VISTA program and aims to build sustainable capacity and address poverty in underserved communities through environmental stewardship and community engagement.

The primary focus of this position is on enhancing community resilience and protecting the Saw Mill River watershed by organizing and leading volunteer-driven environmental projects, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting long-term flood mitigation and restoration efforts. The member will actively engage with local government, nonprofits, residents, and businesses to foster environmental awareness and promote active involvement in sustainability efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build partnerships with municipalities, nonprofits, and community organizations to strengthen environmental initiatives.

  • Organize and lead community events including river clean-ups, tree plantings, and educational programs.

  • Recruit, engage, and support volunteers for stewardship and environmental restoration activities.

  • Develop and disseminate outreach materials such as newsletters, social media content, and informational emails to raise awareness.

  • Research and assist in securing funding through grants and other resources to support program sustainability.

  • Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for watershed protection and community health improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.

  • Minimum age of 18 and must be a college graduate.

  • Must pass a National Service Criminal History Check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel occasionally, work non-traditional hours, and perform physical activities including moving objects up to 25 pounds and navigating varied terrain.

  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.

Time Commitment:
Full-time service (35–40 hours/week) over a one-year term, with participation in national, state, or local service projects as required.

Orientation & Training:

  • Includes AmeriCorps VISTA Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) and training on service guidelines and unallowable activities.

Evaluation and Reporting:
Performance will be assessed based on term completion, successful task execution, and adherence to communicated expectations. Members are required to submit bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment logs, and quarterly reports.
