Animal Care Facilities (acf) Manager

Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking an Animal Care Facilities (ACF) Manager to oversee daily operations of the Animal Care Facility (ACF) at the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Operations and Administration, the ACF Manager will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, manage staff, maintain animal welfare, and oversee supplies, caging, equipment, and facility upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:

✔ Manage daily operations of the ACF, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and government regulations
✔ Monitor animal welfare, facility conditions, and address any concerns
✔ Inspect and maintain ACF for cleanliness, sanitation, and operational efficiency
✔ Oversee equipment maintenance and submit work orders as needed
✔ Manage supplies and inventory of feed, bedding, and PPE
✔ Support Principal Investigators (PIs) and research teams in their studies
✔ Oversee animal census data and maintain accurate records
✔ Develop and update SOPs and operational guidelines
✔ Provide facility tours and training for staff, IACUC personnel, and visitors
✔ Supervise Animal Caretakers, including hiring and performance management
✔ Respond to emergency calls and work off-hours/weekends as needed

Qualifications:

✔ Bachelor’s degree required
✔ 5-6 years of experience in laboratory animal care programs
✔ AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification required
✔ Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) preferred
✔ Knowledge of federal, state, and local animal care regulations
✔ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
✔ Strong managerial, organizational, and communication skills
✔ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
✔ Commitment to innovation and efficiency in facility management
