Description:
The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is currently seeking a qualified and motivated Art Teacher to join its educational team at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility in Massillon, Ohio. This full-time role provides the opportunity to work with youth between the ages of 16 to 18 in small classroom settings, typically consisting of 6–8 students. This position comes with a $5,000 signing incentive, competitive pay, and generous time off.

Teachers play a vital role in habilitating and supporting students by addressing their educational and behavioral needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess students’ educational needs and design customized lesson plans
Deliver art instruction in a small classroom setting with individual support
Maintain classroom structure and engage youth through trauma-informed practices
Counsel students regarding academic performance, behavior, and personal development
Monitor and/or lead extracurricular activities if assigned
Accurately document academic progress and comply with institutional guidelines
Participate in professional development and curriculum improvement efforts
Qualifications & Pay Scale:
Teacher 1: Bachelor’s degree or less – Starting at $66726/year
Teacher 2: Bachelor’s + 20 quarter hours, but less than a Master’s – Higher rate
Teacher 3: Master’s degree – Higher rate
Teacher 4: Master’s + 30 post-graduate hours – Up to $113401/year
Must obtain an Ohio Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment

40 hours/week, full-time schedule
Intersession leave: 40 days off per year (186 student days only)
