Description:
State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY Oswego) is seeking a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer to support the health and performance of its student-athletes. Reporting directly to the Head Athletic Trainer, the selected candidate will contribute to the evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and documentation of athletic injuries while working closely with coaches, support staff, and medical professionals. This is a 10-month, on-site position based in Oswego, NY.
This role is essential for delivering high-quality athletic healthcare within the scope of practice as defined by SUNY Oswego Sports Medicine policies and supervising physicians. The trainer will provide medical services for multiple sports teams, including football, ensuring student-athletes receive care in compliance with institutional and athletic guidelines.
Evaluate, diagnose, and provide rehabilitation and documentation for injuries and medical conditions
Deliver on-site injury care and illness management for various athletic teams
Develop and execute injury prevention programs and individualized rehab protocols
Provide sport-specific accommodation plans for athletes with medical restrictions
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, medical professionals, and university staff
Ensure coverage for home sporting events and accompany teams during travel as needed
Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records in line with NCAA and SUNYAC requirements
Serve as a trusted and responsive contact for student-athletes and their families
Support administrative and healthcare management tasks for the Sports Medicine department
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or a related field
Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification
Licensed or license-eligible in New York State
Valid CPR and AED certifications
Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with athletic teams
This is a temporary appointment for the current academic year, with potential reappointment in the same role for the following year. The university is open to filling the position immediately and encourages early applications.
