Description:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Vice President of Human Resources and Workforce Equity by providing leadership, strategic planning, advice and counsel and serve as a business partner to internal and external clients. The Assistant Director will be second in command in the human resource office and will lead the office when necessary. The Assistant Director will manage the human resources office and provide work direction, training and coaching to the HR team while ensuring excellent customer service. The Assistant Director will collaboratively provide advice and counsel to supervisory staff, cultivate professional development opportunities, and lead total quality improvement initiatives. This position will serve on campus committees, manage leaves and benefits administration, and promote and partner with Equity and Inclusion. The Assistant Director will investigate complaints of employee misconduct, discrimination as needed.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the Human Resource Office and serve as “second in command” in the Vice President’s absence, ensuring efficient workflow management and the highest level of customer service to campus staff and external clientele.
- Provide expert labor relations advice and counsel to leadership, supervisory personnel and staff to ensure consistent practices, contract compliance, and, a culture of high performers that are fully engaged in their work and advancing equity and inclusion as well as promoting the mission, vision and values of Hennepin Technical College. Conduct 1B1 and employee misconduct investigations.
- Serve as Designated Department Insurance Representative (DDIR). College expert on benefit eligibility, open enrollment, new employee orientation and a liaison between college MMB and employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the Human Resources Department and to support the mission and strategic direction of the college
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
- Bachelor’s degree
- One (1) year of proven experience demonstrating leadership and participation in strategic planning.
- One (1) year of benefits/leave administration
- Excellent writing skills; must be able to draft letters, write investigative reports.
- Experience with affirmative action plans and the application of affirmative action in the hiring process
- Demonstrated experience managing projects and rolling out new initiatives
- Demonstrated experience managing data requests and producing reports using new and emerging technologies
- Ability to work collaboratively and develop positive working relationships with employees, including union officials
- Experience entering data into and retrieving data from a Human Resource Information System
- Knowledge of employment laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEOC, ADA, etc.,
- Demonstrated experience and ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
