Position Summary:

The Medical ICU Assistant Nurse Manager supervises and coordinates nursing personnel activities within one or more patient care units, specifically the Medical ICU. This leadership role involves planning unit activities, collaborating across departments, staff training, development, and direct patient care in adherence to Emory’s clinical guidelines. The role promotes a culture of trust, fairness, and quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate nursing personnel activities in the Medical ICU

• Participate in planning and organizing work for assigned units, ensuring coordination with related departments

• Develop and conduct training and educational programs for staff

• Engage in hiring, staff development, evaluation, and management of assigned nursing personnel

• Provide professional bedside nursing care in compliance with Emory Healthcare protocols

• Foster a work environment aligned with the Care Transformation Model emphasizing trust, fairness, and confidentiality

• Interpret policies and procedures to staff, patients, and families

• Adjust clinical assignments based on patient needs and staff competencies

• Provide clinical coaching and feedback to nursing staff on day-to-day operations

• Pursue continuous clinical learning and engage effectively with healthcare teams to achieve quality outcomes

• Participate in departmental committees and system improvement initiatives

• Collaborate across the organization to develop innovative strategies to enhance care delivery

• Manage unit finances to meet budgetary goals, optimize staff time, and improve resource use

• Identify and report needs for capital equipment and repairs

• Verify staffing models with Business Manager to ensure clinical efficacy

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred

• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required depending on area
