Responsibilities

  • Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college’s mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies.
  • Teaches 30 credit hours or equivalent per year as assigned (day, evening or weekend) at one or more of the Georgia Highlands College locations and/or online. Dual Enrollment and studio classes may require additional locations.
  • Teaches appropriate laboratory sections (if required) as assigned and assists with the preparation of materials and exams as needed
  • Maintains timely and proper communication with students, faculty, and staff of the college via phone, email and other electronic means
  • Manages courses through systematic use of appropriate syllabi and accurate, professional records of students’ class performance, attendance and grades
  • Announces and keeps regular office hours (8-10 hours per week) that are dedicated to assist students requesting help
  • Adopts and implements common course objectives as prescribed by the division and the discipline
  • Offers professional assistance in curriculum development, review and instructional materials
  • Maintains involved and knowledgeable participation in academic advising of students
  • Participates in extended work of the college through acceptance and pursuit of assignments to committees of the college or faculty, student organizations, and attends division meetings, full faculty meetings, town hall meetings, required training, and graduation
  • Creates and advises student organization(s) as assigned
  • Attends divisional and full faculty meetings, town hall meetings, in-service training, and graduation
  • Engages in functions of evidence-based academic and program assessment, as required for accreditation, college compliance and continuous review and improvement of student learning outcomes
  • Demonstrates meaningful service to the community and to the profession
  • Pursues continued professional development in teaching areas, technological applications for the classroom, and innovations and enhancements in teaching and learning
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a course of study related to the specific occupational field/discipline and one (1) to four (4) years related experience in higher education.
  • Educational requirement is determined by the faculty level
  • Master's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field of Visual Art or Graphic Design, with 18 graduate-level hours in the teaching discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technology skills appropriate to the job duties (Adobe Suite, other Graphic Design programs or software)
  • Art instruction in a studio setting
  • Demonstrated ability to teach foundation and intermediate graphic design courses;
  • Strong understanding of graphic design history, theory, and contemporary practice
