Description:

The University of South Florida (USF), a leading public research university and member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction in Communication. This 9-month, non-tenure-earning position is based in the Department of Communication at the Tampa campus.

The successful candidate will specialize in group communication or related areas and contribute to the undergraduate curriculum through both in-person and online teaching. This role offers an opportunity to join a diverse and collaborative academic community that emphasizes innovative teaching, curriculum development, and student engagement in foundational communication education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach group communication and other undergraduate communication courses within the department’s curriculum.

  • Coordinate the general education group communication course, ensuring compliance with university and state curricular standards.

  • Participate in curricular development, assessment, and program improvement initiatives.

  • Teach a 4/4 course load (four courses per semester) in both face-to-face and online formats.

  • Engage in departmental service and contribute to the university’s academic mission.

  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student success in general education and foundational communication courses.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited institution (must be conferred by the appointment start date: August 7, 2026).

  • Demonstrated record of teaching group communication or closely related courses.

  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching business and professional communication courses, such as interview communication.

  • Demonstrated expertise in coordinating or assisting in the coordination of multi-section courses.

  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.

  • Prior experience with online teaching platforms and instructional technologies.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual Salary: $55,000 (approx. $4,583/month).
