The Co-op School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Lower School Assistant Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year. This role offers an opportunity to work within a unique, community-centered school environment that values curiosity, creativity, and student agency.

Founded in 2003, The Co-op School has evolved from a small playgroup into a comprehensive educational institution serving preschool through middle school students under one roof. The school emphasizes a constructivist approach to learning, fostering exploration, critical thinking, and joy in learning.

As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the Head Teacher in both instructional and operational aspects of the classroom. You will assist in preparing materials, supporting lesson planning, and helping students with academic and social development. The role also includes opportunities to lead lessons and develop independent units of study. In addition, you will contribute to classroom documentation, student progress reports, and participate in parent-teacher conferences.

You will be expected to attend weekly planning meetings, professional development sessions, and school events. Assistant Teachers are integral to fostering a welcoming, collaborative environment for students, families, and colleagues alike. You will also act as a substitute lead teacher when needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting in classroom instruction, behavior management, and lesson preparation

  • Supporting and documenting student learning and developmental progress

  • Participating in curriculum planning, school events, and professional development

  • Maintaining classroom cleanliness and organization

  • Collaborating with lead teachers and school administration to uphold school values and student safety

  • Ensuring effective communication with families in coordination with the Head Teacher

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably in early childhood or elementary education)

  • 2–3 years of experience working with children in an educational setting

  • Passion for child development and early education

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and eagerness to grow professionally

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time union position

  • Start Date: August 2025

  • Reports to: Lower School Division Head

  • COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all employees
