Description:
CNA Insurance is seeking an accomplished Assistant Vice President (AVP), Complex Claims professional to lead strategic claim management for high-severity Auto and General Liability cases. This position provides leadership and oversight to a Major Loss Unit (MLU) and plays a key role in executing CNA’s strategic claim initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a Major Loss Unit (MLU) of six director-level claims professionals handling the company’s most complex and high-exposure claims.
Develop and implement claim strategies aligned with company goals to ensure timely, effective claim resolution.
Drive team performance through talent development, mentoring, and succession planning.
Collaborate with Underwriting, Actuary, and senior Claims leadership to develop business strategies and evaluate performance metrics.
Monitor claim trends, legal developments, and emerging risks affecting CNA’s portfolio.
Manage operational budgets and ensure resource optimization.
Utilize data analytics and technology to enhance claim processes and improve outcomes.
Represent CNA within the industry and maintain knowledge of regulatory developments and market trends.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to: Claims Vice President
Frequent interaction with: Claims SVP, Actuary, and Underwriting leadership
Proven leadership experience managing teams handling high-severity and complex claims.
Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Deep understanding of claims operations, insurance products, and financial management.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills in a matrix organization.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, insurance claims systems, and familiarity with AI tools.
Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and a track record of achieving optimal claim outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or J.D. preferred.
10+ years of relevant claims experience, including 5+ years in management.
Professional certifications or designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) are preferred.
💼 Base Salary: $152,000 – $242,000 (varies by experience and location)
