West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) is a private liberal arts college dedicated to academic excellence, student development, and vibrant athletic programs. The College seeks a qualified Assistant Vice President for Athletics to support and advance its intercollegiate athletic department in compliance with institutional policies and governing bodies like the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and NCAA.


Role Overview:

The Assistant Vice President for Athletics supports the Vice President for Athletics in planning, directing, coordinating, and managing the College’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The position ensures compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations, manages home game logistics, leads special athletic events, and oversees daily department operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist in daily athletic department operations, game day activities, and event setup, including concessions and special events.

  • Plan, organize, and support fundraising events for the Athletic Department.

  • Supervise assigned staff and subordinate personnel.

  • Assist in budget management and financial planning to ensure compliance with college policies and NCAA rules.

  • Provide strategic input and help resolve operational coordination issues within the department and with other campus units.

  • Assist in the implementation of new athletic programs and department policies.

  • Maintain accurate documentation related to athletic programs and events.

  • Support management of MEC and NCAA compliance activities.

  • Serve as a member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Athletics.

  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles.

  • Deep understanding of collegiate athletics programs and regulations, including NCAA and MEC compliance.

  • Proficient in software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to evaluate and develop athletic programs and provide strategic recommendations.

  • Capacity to adapt to diverse social environments including athletic training and competition settings, working with students, staff, and external constituents.


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Sports Administration, or related field required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum three years of leadership and managerial experience.

  • At least three to five years of experience working within an athletic department at the high school or collegiate level.
