The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Social Work invites applications for the role of Associate Dean for Research. The Associate Dean for Research will oversee the School’s Office of Research, supporting faculty research development, enhancing collaborations across the university and community partners, and strengthening the school’s research portfolio. This role will include 50% administrative and 50% faculty responsibilities, including teaching two courses per year (with the option to buy out of one course).

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the School’s Office of Research, collaborating on grant development, research budgets, and project supports.

• Represent the School at VCU’s Office of Research and Innovation and associated committees.

• Maintain an active program of externally funded research.

• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within and outside VCU.

• Mentor faculty and students in research development.

• Administer internal research funding and oversee graduate research assistant appointments.

• Coordinate research workshops, presentations, and communications.

• Promote a sustainable and collaborative research culture.

• Manage faculty research leave programs.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in social work or a closely related discipline.

• Exceptional scholarly portfolio with a strong history of external funding.

• Ability to foster a diverse and inclusive environment.

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with federal grant writing and reviewing.

• Administrative leadership experience within academia.

Special Opportunities:

• Ability to appoint a funded postdoctoral scholar for one year, with the potential for renewal.

Compensation:

• Salary between $155,000 and $165,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
