Description:
Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking a Sports Team Athletic Trainer to join its Orthopedic Clinic in Paducah, KY, offering dedicated athletic medical coverage for practices, games, and community athletic events. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for assessing, treating, preventing, and rehabilitating injuries sustained by athletes and active individuals. This includes providing emergency response care for fractures, concussions, and other sports-related trauma. In addition, the trainer will help develop injury prevention programs, communicate with medical professionals and families, and educate coaches and athletes on proper health and safety protocols.
This position serves local schools, community teams, and athletic events, requiring the ability to function independently, prioritize in fast-paced environments, and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Conduct comprehensive evaluations, treatment plans, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries based on established orthopedic and sports medicine protocols.
Provide emergency medical care including management of fractures, traumatic brain injuries, and catastrophic injuries at sports events.
Manage medication administration within state laws and ensure regulatory compliance.
Design and implement personalized injury prevention and wellness programs.
Facilitate medical referrals and ensure smooth communication among athletes, coaches, parents, and healthcare providers.
Perform diagnostic testing, wound care, taping/bracing, and injury documentation using EMR systems like EPIC.
Oversee scheduling, inventory management, and athletic training budgets.
Deliver CPR and other safety training to community stakeholders.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training (Required)
Master’s degree in Athletic Training (Preferred)
Licenses & Certifications:
National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA BOC) – Required
State Licensure for Athletic Training – Required where applicable
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Preferred upon hire, Required within 30 days
Preferred Experience:
Minimum 2 years in a clinical or sports team environment.
Clinical Skills:
Emergency care techniques
Diagnostic evaluation
Taping, bracing, wound care, and rehab protocols
Monitoring large groups of athletes
Familiarity with EPIC or equivalent EMR systems
Soft Skills:
