Description:

RSM, a global leader in professional services for the middle market, is seeking an accomplished and strategic Business Development Director – Financial Consulting (FC) to join its growing team. This key leadership role is designed for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in driving business growth and managing high-performing sales teams in the financial consulting or broader professional services space.

The Director will function both as a player and a coach—personally leading sales efforts while overseeing a team of Business Development professionals. The role encompasses the full sales cycle including prospect targeting, opportunity assessment, proposal strategy, and contract closure. The successful candidate will be adept at engaging C-suite executives and decision-makers such as Boards of Directors, Audit Committees, CFOs, CAOs, and VPs of Finance.

In addition to building new business, the Director will collaborate closely with internal industry and service line leaders, developing go-to-market strategies, leveraging networks and professional associations, and working with national sales leadership to respond dynamically to market trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive new business development with companies not currently engaged with RSM.

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a sales team responsible for building pipelines and closing deals.

  • Spearhead cross-functional efforts with local and national marketing and service line teams to develop targeted growth strategies.

  • Engage with decision-makers across publicly traded companies and high-value targets.

  • Maintain ongoing relationships with clients and assist in cross-selling additional services.

  • Actively participate in networking associations, industry events, and client-facing activities.

  • Provide critical market feedback to the National Sales Organization.

  • Coordinate internal resources and quarterback the sales process from start to finish.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience selling complex professional services to large, public companies.

  • Experience closing deals with C-level executives and Boards, particularly within the finance function.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead sales teams and manage proposal/SOW processes.

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and executive presence.

  • Skilled in using CRM tools for sales tracking and reporting.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Willingness to travel as needed (local and overnight).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive network among C-suite executives, Board members, SEC attorneys, investment bankers, and industry groups.

  • Prior experience at a Big Four or national professional services firm is highly desirable.

  • Background in accounting or finance functions within an organization is a plus.

  • Proven success in leading high-performing business development teams.
