Description:
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in driving job creation, strengthening the city economy and ensuring San Francisco remains a competitive, innovative and successful place to start and grow a business. This position will be responsible for business outreach, business attraction and retention across the arts, culture, and entertainment sectors as well as independent business owners with support in other sectors as needed. The Business Development Manager will also support the team on grant management and communications. The Business Development Manager will be an integral part of the City’s Business Development Team which thrives on passionate, solution-oriented, and collaborative team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement programs to support the economic recovery of the arts, culture and entertainment sectors, including the SF Live performance series and resources for neighborhood and community outdoor events.
- Develop and launch new programs with division colleagues, other City departments, and industry stakeholders to attract investment in arts, culture and entertainment to San Francisco’s downtown core and strengthen existing downtown offerings, including the implementation of a downtown arts, culture, and entertainment zone.
- Work with communications team and industry stakeholders on initiatives to amplify San Francisco’s reputation as an arts, culture and entertainment industry leader.
- Oversee grant procurement and management for grant programs related to these sectors.
- Develop, strengthen and manage relationships with arts, culture, and entertainment business representatives as a primary point of contact; assist with all aspects of moving, starting, and growing an arts and entertainment business in San Francisco including assistance navigating city and state government, real estate, workforce development, and incentive programs.
- Drive job creation by developing and implementing business attraction, retention and start-up support strategies for the arts, culture and entertainment sectors.
- Identify threshold constraints to sector companies and independent contractors locating, growing or expanding in San Francisco and develop solutions through issue leadership, policy, and strategic partnerships.
- Assess industry trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Track, measure and report on business attraction, retention, and job creation efforts
- Manage special projects as assigned.
- Support additional sectors as assigned.
Qualifications
Desirable Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in economic development, business or program management, grant administration, event production, marketing, or related field.
- A proven track record in business development that includes successfully interfacing with industry leaders.
- Strong communication, relationship management, analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
- Proactive, entrepreneurial, collaborative, strategic, and solution-oriented
- Experience working with arts, culture, or entertainment sectors a plus.

- Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management Databases (CRM) a plus.
