Carilion Clinic is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join the 7 West Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in acute and chronic heart failure and other cardiovascular medical conditions. This 26-bed telemetry unit also serves as an alternate unit for medicine observation patients.

As a PCT, you will be an integral part of the patient care team, providing essential nursing care and support to patients of all sexes and genders.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care and perform advanced technical skills for designated patient age groups.

• Assist patients with daily needs such as bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other basic care requirements.

• Take and document vital signs including blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature.

• Transport patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies within the facility.

• Appropriately document and report observations to licensed staff.

• Manage admissions, transfers, and discharges, and coordinate patient flow using unit-specific software.

• Process and clean equipment between patient use, ensuring readiness and availability.

• Provide one-on-one patient care for those under suicide or safety precautions.

• Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement initiatives.

Key Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire.

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license preferred but not mandatory.

• Strong attention to detail, effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

• Ability to successfully complete mandatory orientation and competency validation.

• Previous experience in direct patient care preferred.
