Certified Medical Assistant

Description:

Bon Secours Mercy Health, a faith-based and patient-centered healthcare organization, is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for the Urgent Care Sylvania location in Toledo, OH. This role is essential in supporting primary care physicians by delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring services are performed within the scope of medical assisting and state guidelines.

The CMA is responsible for reviewing and updating patient health records, taking vital signs, preparing treatment rooms, and assisting with clerical and clinical tasks. The position emphasizes excellent patient engagement, attention to detail, and collaborative work with healthcare staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service

• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, ensuring all diagnostic tests, reports, and medical records are accurate and up-to-date

• Measure vital signs including pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height

• Perform clerical tasks: inventory management, stock supplies, track referrals, answer phones, and other departmental duties

• Troubleshoot and promptly resolve patient care and administrative issues

• Perform additional duties as assigned

Education & Certification:

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Active Medical Assisting Certification from one of the following (required):

  • CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)

  • RMA (American Medical Technologists)

  • CCMA (National Healthcareer Association)

  • NRCMA (Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant)

  • NCMA (National Association for Health Professionals)

  • NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association required at hire or prior to independent patient care

Experience & Skills:

• Preferred: 1 year medical assistant experience in healthcare and 2 years clerical experience in a physician’s office

• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

• Basic computer literacy

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Professionalism in interacting with patients, staff, and community members
