ACLD (Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities), a leading non-profit organization serving Nassau and Suffolk counties since 1957, is currently hiring Certified Teacher Assistants for their Bay Shore, NY facility. This is a rewarding full-time opportunity to contribute to the development and education of children with developmental disabilities and make a meaningful impact in their lives.
ACLD’s Children’s Services division offers a broad range of programs for children aged 3 to 21, including preschool and after-school services. As a Teacher Assistant, you will work as part of a trans-disciplinary team to support the educational and behavioral development of students under the guidance of certified Special Education Teachers.
You will assist with classroom responsibilities and provide hands-on, instructional, and behavioral support that promotes the student’s independence and growth. Key Responsibilities:
🔹 Assist classroom staff with all daily instructional and care-related duties
🔹 Work closely with the lead teacher to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
🔹 Engage students in developmentally appropriate activities that promote cognitive and social development
🔹 Support students' behavioral and emotional goals using positive reinforcement techniques
🔹 Supervise children in a variety of educational settings such as self-contained, integrated, off-site, and childcare environments
🔹 Assist with classroom setup, cleanliness, and organization
🔹 Actively participate in team meetings and training sessions
🔹 Model appropriate behavior and encourage social interaction among students
Minimum Requirements:
✔ High School Diploma or equivalent
✔ New York State Teacher Assistant Certification is REQUIRED
✔ At least 1 year of classroom or childcare experience (special needs experience preferred)
✔ Physically capable of supervising preschoolers, including lifting up to 25 lbs., bending, and moving quickly as needed
✔ Must be 18 years or older to independently supervise children
✔ Ability to work independently with strong communication and interpersonal skills
✔ Familiarity with Microsoft Office
✔ Preferred: Bilingual ability and/or ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) experience
Work Schedule:
🕗 Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (35 hours/week)
