Description:

Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine invites applications for two full-time Clinical Assistant Professor positions in the Department of General Dentistry. The role involves teaching pre-clinical, clinical, and didactic courses in general dentistry to dental students and general practice residents. The candidate will support compliance with institutional best practices and contribute to school governance, committees, and faculty practice.

The position encourages professional development, including opportunities to enhance teaching skills through the university’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, and the possibility to pursue a Master’s in Higher Education Administration (MHEA). Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, foster a collegial and culturally diverse academic environment, and uphold professionalism and high ethical standards.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Teach all aspects of general dentistry at both pre-clinical and clinical levels

  • Engage with dental students and general practice residents in education and mentorship

  • Support institutional compliance and participate in school governance and committees

  • Demonstrate pedagogical growth and engage in scholarship

  • Participate actively in the affiliated faculty dental practice

  • Promote collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity in academic settings

  • Serve as a role model advocating professionalism and ethics in health science education


Qualifications:

Required:

  • DDS or DMD degree from a CODA-accredited dental school/college

  • Certificate from a CODA-accredited General Practice Residency (GPR) or Advanced Dental Education Program in General Dentistry (AEGD)

  • Minimum five years of clinical experience in general dentistry

  • Eligibility for or possession of a New York State Dental license

  • Formal training and practice in CAD/CAM digital dentistry and implant dentistry

  • Experience and appreciation of interdisciplinary patient care with dental specialists

Preferred:

  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience at a CODA-accredited dental school or hospital

  • Advanced degree in education, dental materials, or oral biology

  • Demonstrated research and scholarly activity

  • Participation in organized dentistry at local, state, or national levels

  • Interest in enrolling in the Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration program at Stony Brook University
