Clinical Pharmacist

Carilion Clinic is seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Staff Pharmacist to join their team on a 7-on/7-off midnight shift rotation. This role focuses on delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, optimizing patient outcomes, and supporting healthcare teams in a dynamic hospital environment.

As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide consultation to healthcare providers, educate patients and staff, review and process medication orders, and participate actively in interdisciplinary care teams. Your role includes advising on effective treatments, participating in pharmacotherapeutic decision-making, ensuring timely delivery and accurate preparation of medications (sterile/non-sterile), and supporting clinical pharmacy initiatives across the institution.

You will also provide virtual pharmacy consultations to Carilion Clinic Ambulatory Offices, respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies, and serve as a valuable resource for evidence-based medicine and drug information. This position offers opportunities for education and mentorship of pharmacy students and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pharmaceutical consultation to healthcare providers and patients.

• Review and verify medication orders for accuracy and compliance.

• Participate in collaborative practice protocols and interdisciplinary care teams.

• Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests within assigned areas.

• Prepare and dispense medications, ensuring timely delivery.

• Educate healthcare staff, students, residents, and patients on medication use.

• Maintain competency with pharmacy technologies and procedures.

• Support departmental clinical pharmacy initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.

• Licensure: License to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 90 days of hire.

• Preferred: Hospital pharmacy experience or completion of Pharmacy Practice Residency.

• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and follow procedures.
