Clinical Staff Pharmacist

Description:

Carilion New River Valley Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Staff Pharmacist to manage and coordinate pharmacy operations supporting the outpatient Infusion Center. The pharmacist will ensure efficient handling of medications, optimize therapy plans, and collaborate with nursing and provider staff to maintain patient safety and workflow efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate receipt, storage, and administration of “white bag” and “free drug” medications.

• Communicate with specialty pharmacies and payers to address delays or discrepancies.

• Manage infusion medication inventory and verify orders in Epic.

• Ensure proper charging for non-formulary infusion medications.

• Enter, review, and optimize Epic Therapy Plans.

• Collaborate with nurses and providers to clarify infusion orders and optimize workflow.

• Assist with investigational drug provision at the Infusion Center.

• Educate other pharmacists on infusion center processes and workflows.

• Cross-training may be provided in other clinical areas (e.g., Emergency Department, night shift) based on candidate interest.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by ACPE.

• Pharmacy licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 90 days of hire.

• Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

• Ability to manage time effectively, work accurately, and follow procedures independently.

• Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.

• Knowledge of general office equipment and computer skills.

• Completion of Orientation Competency required for all pharmacists.

Work Environment:

• Day shift, Monday through Friday. No scheduled weekends.
