Collections Care Associate

Description:

The BUAM Coordinator of Education and Public Programs is a 10-month, part-time position. The Coordinator will play an important role in developing and implementing programs for campus, school, family and community audiences of all ages during the academic year. Responsibilities include program conception and development, development of interpretive materials for community and school programs, mentoring one or more education interns, keeping current with museum education best practices, serving as a liaison between the Museum and educators at the elementary and secondary levels, and assisting with marketing programs to appropriate audiences. The Coordinator will work closely with all Museum staff to develop and provide support for visitor-centered and interactive special programs in conjunction with current exhibitions.

• BA degree in relevant field
• teaching experience
• excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing and public speaking skills
• must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours

Preferred:

• MA in Museum Education, Education, Museum Studies, Art History, or Studio Art
• knowledge of teachers' needs, including K-12 teachers and New York State Learning Standards
• familiarity with Visual Thinking Strategies
• experience working with diverse audiences of a variety of ages
• experience using new technologies to deliver educational content
• history of developing and implementing art-making activities
• ability to manage the AV technology necessary for public programs
• experience working in a museum or similar cultural institution
• experience developing and planning public-facing programs
• strong organizational skills
