Description:

The College Success Advisory Teacher at The Texas Girls School plays a crucial role in equipping students with the mindset, skills, and habits needed for academic and personal success. This founding leadership position blends student advising, character development, executive functioning coaching, and professional development for staff to create a culture of confidence, resilience, and strong academic habits.

The teacher will implement a holistic curriculum that incorporates brain-based science, goal-setting techniques, and essential study strategies, ensuring students thrive both in middle school and beyond. In addition to direct student engagement, the role includes leading professional development for teachers to integrate wellness, relationship-building, and college-prep strategies into daily instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

Wellness & Brain-Based Practices

  • Teach focus and relaxation techniques to enhance concentration, emotional regulation, and resilience.
  • Incorporate wellness strategies into daily student routines for stress management and self-awareness.

Relationships & Student Support

  • Build trusting relationships to motivate students and foster confidence.
  • Create an inclusive advisory environment for academic and personal support.

Goal Setting & Character Development

  • Guide students in setting personal and academic goals, fostering self-advocacy and resilience.
  • Develop character, leadership skills, and a growth mindset for lifelong success.

Study Skills & College Prep

  • Teach effective study habits, time management, and organization skills.
  • Prepare students for college by enhancing presentation, communication, and collaboration skills.

Teacher Training & Professional Development

  • Lead staff training on wellness, goal-setting, study skills, and relationship-building.
  • Support teachers in integrating executive functioning strategies, mindfulness, and character development into their lessons.
  • Foster a collaborative faculty culture to ensure consistent student support across all subjects.

Qualifications:

✔ Bachelor’s degree required
✔ Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
✔ Experience in wellness, student advising, or college/career readiness preferred
✔ Background in STEM, PBL, and/or single-gender education is a plus
✔ Experience in charter schools or fast-paced school environments preferred

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: $58,000 per year
  • Retirement: TRS eligible
  • Additional Stipends: Available for afterschool programs
