We have an opening for a Registrar for a Community Engagement Fellow to join the Strategic Communications department at MCA Chicago. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Fellow will be a key facilitator in the co-development of programming with local Puerto Rican communities in relation to the upcoming MCA’s Art Design Chicago (ADC) exhibition, Entre Horizontes. Programming for the exhibition will be both co-constructed with the communities, as well as centering of community voices and perspectives. As such, the Fellow will be a consistent on-the-ground point-person for the programming of the exhibition, learning from and rooting themselves in the heart of the community. To be successful in this role, you must:


  • Liaise with stakeholders in the Puerto Rican community in Chicago.
  • Gather and develop content for a capstone program that elevates perspectives of the local community and connects with the main ideas in the MCA exhibition Entre Horizontes.
  • Provide production and engagement support for Entre Horizontes related projects and programming.
  • Cultivate effective collaborative relationships with area artists, institutions, communities, and organizations to contribute to quality public programming.
  • Oversee the scheduling of space, making travel arrangements, oversee event registration, and event-specific volunteers for public programs and events, including organizing and maintaining departmental files and reports.
  • Coordinate the logistics associated with the public programs such as creating speaker contracts, ordering supplies, communicating schedules with key internal stakeholders.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 2 or more years of community-centered work or project experience.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with communities in Chicago.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and at a high level of productivity.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to listen and understand team and project needs as well as a willingness to collaborate for solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Asana, Monday.com, Basecamp, etc.
  • Ability to perform occasional light lifting.
  • General mobility throughout all museum properties.
