The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Computer Engineering and Robotics. The appointment will be within the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community with access to WVU’s world-class facilities and interdisciplinary programs such as the WVU Robotics Program, Data Science Program, Energy Institute, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Biometrics Center, Cybersecurity Center, and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).
Develop and maintain an independent, externally funded research program of international standing in the field of computer engineering and robotics.
Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in computer engineering, robotics, and related disciplines.
Collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary research teams across the WVU campus and with external academic, government, and industry partners.
Publish in high-impact journals and present research findings at leading conferences.
Contribute to departmental and university service, including committee participation and curriculum development.
Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Computer Engineering or a closely related field, earned by the time of appointment.
Demonstrated excellence or potential in research, teaching, and professional service.
Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of ability to attract competitive research funding.
Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
For appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates must have a proven track record of academic excellence in research, teaching, and service.
The Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering houses over 30 faculty members and serves 750 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. The department actively collaborates with national research institutions and has extensive research funding exceeding $51 million annually.
WVU’s Robotics Program is particularly distinguished, with nine national or international robotics competition victories since 2011 and ongoing projects in areas such as AI-based control, virtual/augmented reality, cybersecurity of drones, and smart city systems.
