Construction Supervisor

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers, is hiring multiple Construction Supervisors (X82) for various shifts. With over 25,000 employees and a 135-year history, Newport News Shipbuilding leads innovation in naval ship design, construction, and maintenance.

The Construction Supervisor will coordinate and oversee all aspects of the construction process for assigned areas of responsibility (AOR). This includes defining project scope, managing schedules, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring contract compliance. Supervisors will play a critical role in problem resolution, liaising with trades’ management, and monitoring cost performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and supervise the full construction process within assigned areas.

• Define project goals and deliverables supporting build strategy and key event schedules.

• Manage expectations of stakeholders and team members while ensuring safety and quality compliance.

• Identify and resolve issues related to design, materials, scheduling, manpower, and other construction risks.

• Work closely with trades’ management to control costs, determine overtime needs, and manage cost drivers.

• Evaluate growth work and contract-funded changes to confirm funding and feasibility within timelines.

• Conduct multiple inspections including structural, tank/void, compartment, and system turnover inspections.

• Document discrepancies and ensure corrective actions are completed.

• Assess safety risks and implement mitigation strategies.

• Travel requirements range from 10% to 25%.
