The Department of Steward Observatory is seeking an experienced and talented writer/communicator capable of leading and assisting in the generation of materials that communicated the research, education, and outreach activities of the students, staff, and faculty of Steward Observatory and the Department of Astronomy to our multiple audiences - the general public, our professional peers, government agencies, and our colleagues in the University of Arizona. the hired individual will be expected to help us increase the visibility of our people and our activities utilizing a broad range of communication tools including but not limited to social media and webpages.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Help faculty, staff, and students publicize results that are media-worthy, coordinating with UA Marketing as needed.
• Work with faculty and researchers to write and edit press releases and short articles for wide audiences.
• Help faculty and researchers make short videos for YouTube and other channels.
• Assist faculty and researchers in updating and maintaining content of our web pages.
• Coordinate SO/DA social media activity, and advise faculty, staff, and students on the best ways to maintain a social media presence.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Communications and the College of Science to disseminate SO/DA news (research, education, outreach).
• Assist Director/Department Head and Development Team with preparation of proposals and materials that present and inform the intended audience about the education, research, and outreach activities of the Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory.
• Additional duties may be assigned.
