Description:
PreMed Catalyst is looking for a Content Director to take full ownership of our YouTube production workflow—from research and writing to publishing and performance analysis. This role is deeply strategic and highly executional: you will own the entire content process from idea to upload. This role is critical to scaling our mission of helping premeds become doctors.
You will be responsible for transforming Mike's expertise and thought leadership into high-performing YouTube content that resonates with premeds, their parents, and anyone navigating the medical school admissions process. Your goal: creating content that converts, not just content that performs. You will manage production, lead platform strategy, direct contractors, and be in the trenches creating world-class content that drives audience growth and business results. You will need to thrive in ambiguity, move fast, and collaborate tightly with the talent (that's Mike!) to bring our brand to life in ways that feel native, fresh, and dialed into what the market wants.
This is not a generic "social media manager" role. We need someone who deeply understands YouTube as a platform—the algorithm, retention tactics, thumbnail psychology, and what makes educational content perform. We plan to have this role evolve to management of TikTok and other possible channels including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Podcasts - but the initial focus will be entirely on YouTube.
Responsibilities
Content Research & Strategy
- Research and maintain a continuous pipeline of video ideas using both internal data (what's worked for us) and external inspiration (competitor analysis, trending topics, audience questions)
- Identify content gaps and opportunities in the premed/medical school admissions space
- Stay ahead of YouTube trends, algorithm changes, and best practices specific to educational content (i.e. think Caleb Ralston, Ali Abdaal, Ramit Sethi among others)
- Develop quarterly content strategies that balance "singles" (proven formats) with "home runs" (experimental content)
- Pitch video concepts with smart packaging, titles, and structure, then develop full outlines for review
- Own the full content lifecycle: idea → scripting → filming → editing → publishing → promotion → reporting
Content Writing & Production Oversight
- Write compelling video scripts with strong hooks, clear structure, and retention-optimized pacing
- Develop YouTube-specific copywriting skills: titles, descriptions, and thumbnail concepts
- Manage the production timeline to stay at least 2 weeks ahead of our publishing schedule
- Oversee and coordinate with contractors (editors, thumbnail designers, publishers) to ensure quality and deadlines through detailed reviews and feedback
Performance Analysis & Optimization
- Analyze content performance weekly using platform YouTube Analytics to inform strategy
- Prioritize metrics that move the business forward (lead generation, CTR, AVD, views)
- Identify patterns in what's working (and what's not) and translate insights into actionable improvements
- Predict content performance and refine our approach based on data
- Deliver weekly performance reports with clear takeaways
Team & Workflow Management
- Manage relationships with existing contractors (editing, thumbnails, publishing)
- Maintain and improve our content production workflow in collaboration with the team
- Eventually help build out the content team as we scale to additional platforms
Requirements
Must-Haves:
- 2+ years of experience managing or growing a YouTube channel with measurable results
- Proven success in scaling reach, engagement, and/or subscriber growth on YouTube
- Strong YouTube-specific copywriting skills (hooks, titles, scripts, CTAs)
- Deep understanding of YouTube's algorithm, analytics, and audience retention tactics
- Experience managing freelancers or contractors in a creative workflow
- Excellent written communication and ability to capture a brand voice
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment
