Description:

SpaceX, driven by its mission to make life multiplanetary, is seeking a skilled Controls Technician (Facilities Operations) to join its team at Cape Canaveral, FL. This role involves working on complex building automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems essential to SpaceX’s launch and manufacturing operations.

The technician will be responsible for installing and terminating wiring for facility building automation and data acquisition systems, performing continuity checks, locating and correcting wiring errors, and working with various connectors, terminals, and lugs. They will also install and maintain electrical conveyances such as conduit and cable trays, fabricate support structures for electrical distribution equipment, and work with PLC-based manufacturing hardware. The role includes troubleshooting and maintaining overhead cranes, HVAC systems, industrial doors, fire alarms, building automation systems, VFDs, and AC power distribution equipment up to 480VAC.

The position demands collaboration with design engineers, troubleshooting based on test data, creating detailed work planning documents, generating purchase orders, and leading complex projects with minimal oversight. Proficiency in using both power tools (e.g., drills, grinders, saws) and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches) is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with instrumentation (transducers, accelerometers, thermocouples, etc.)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Associate degree in Aerospace Technology, Automation, or Controls

  • 2+ years of experience at a launch site

  • Familiarity with ISO 9000, IPC-620, ICP-610 standards

  • Quality inspection experience with harnessing and cables

  • Knowledge of DC electrical theory and simple circuit design

  • PLC/DAQ programming (NI Max, Step 7, Studio 5000)

  • Journeyman’s Electrician License, NICET certifications, overhead crane maintenance certifications

  • Experience with building automation systems such as Johnson Controls Metasys, Automated Logic WebCTRL, Delta entelliweb, Honeywell Niagara

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass Air Force background check

  • Flexible to work Tues–Sat or Sun–Thurs (6:00am–4:30pm)

  • Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs, working in tight spaces, at heights, and in extreme environments

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends

  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements (U.S. citizen, green card holder, refugee, or asylee)
