Responsibilities

  • Completes relevant assignments as determined by the needs of students with disabilities
  • Develops and maintains relationships with students and their family, administrators, faculty, staff and relevant community service providers
  • Provides information to assist prospective and current students with disabilities in their transition and adjustment to the university
  • Conducts intake assessments with students, reviews documentation and advises of accommodation needs
  • Accepts disability documentation and makes appropriate determinations for academic accommodations
  • Coordinates resources and assists with appeals to ensure the retention and academic success of students with disabilities and with pregnancy related medical conditions
  • Educates campus community about disability related issues and conducts outreach programming
  • Manages electronic read aloud book orders for students with print related disabilities
  • Proctors exams for students who need test accommodations
  • Implements developmental programs to assist with transition academic support which may include assistance with retention efforts and orientation programs
  • Works with Facilities to assess and remove physical barriers on campus
  • Serves as campus representative on the Regents’ Advisory Council for Disability Service Providers
  • May supervise at least one social work or counseling intern
  • Consults with the University’s Legal Counsel and the Liaison at the Regents’ Center for Learning Disorders for assistance as needed
  • Serves on the University’s Behavior Intervention Team
  • Provides individual and group counseling as it pertains to academics, and disability services
  • Conducts developmental programs, monitors/proctors exams
  • Works directly with students, faculty, and staff to provide support and accommodation
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff and administration as it pertains to disability services
  • Conducts workshops on academic support for students with disabilities
  • May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or special education
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of work with individuals with a physical, learning or psychological disability
  • Knowledge of relevant disability federal laws (ADA, Title IV, Rehabilitation Act)
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
