The Superior Court of Los Angeles County, the largest unified trial court in the United States, is seeking Court Reporter Interns to join its workforce. With 582 judicial officers and over 4,600 employees across 36 facilities, the Court is committed to providing equal access to justice while fostering collaboration and professional growth.

This internship provides an exciting opportunity to develop the essential skills required for verbatim court reporting in a dynamic legal environment. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a variety of hearings, including civil, criminal, and juvenile proceedings.

There are two tracks available:

  • Non-Licensed Interns: Focus on skill-building, preparation for the Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) exam, and refinement of Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) proficiency.

  • Licensed Interns: Gain real-world court reporting experience, sharpen expertise, and build confidence in official proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately report and transcribe court proceedings.

  • Prepare transcripts in compliance with Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statutes.

  • Develop proficiency in real-time transcription using CAT software.

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of proceedings.

  • Work closely with court staff to support daily operations.

Selection Requirements:

  • Non-Licensed Interns: High School diploma/GED, enrollment in or completion of an accredited Court Reporting training program, and formal verification of passing a 180wpm or faster speed test.

  • Licensed Interns: High School diploma/GED and current CSR license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California.

  • Valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative transportation required.

  • Documentation of reporting speed must be formally verified (school certificate, email confirmation, or other official documentation from an accredited Court Reporting program).

Schedule:

  • Up to 20 hours per week.

  • Option 1: Two full days (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) plus one additional morning (8:00 am – 12:00 pm).

  • Option 2: Five mornings per week (8:00 am – 12:00 pm).

  • Eligible candidates will remain on a list for six months and may be considered for additional vacancies.
