Description:
UNC Health, a leading healthcare network with over 40,000 employees, is seeking a CT Technologist for its Johnston Health facility in Smithfield, NC. The CT Technologist will be responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic procedures using Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment, ensuring high-quality images that support accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment. The role demands technical proficiency, patient care excellence, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.
1. Patient Identification & Care:
Verify patient identity using approved procedures and maintain professional interaction.
Obtain complete patient history, document pregnancy status for applicable patients, and ensure safety throughout the procedure.
Assist and communicate effectively with patients and their families, particularly those requiring extra care or reassurance.
2. CT Scanning Operations:
Conduct CT imaging according to established clinical protocols.
Perform multi-planar and 3D image reconstructions with precise knowledge of CT algorithms.
Select appropriate window and level settings for anatomical accuracy and diagnostic clarity.
3. Contrast Administration:
Safely administer oral and IV contrast to adult and pediatric patients as per protocols.
Verify patient eligibility for contrast administration by reviewing lab values and medical history.
Follow all safety standards and maintain accurate records of contrast use.
4. Image Processing & Transfer:
Manage image data through PACS and electronic medical record systems such as EPIC.
Verify patient identification, segment images appropriately, and ensure all charge information is accurate.
Troubleshoot image transmission issues and maintain proper documentation to avoid duplicate billing.
5. Workflow Management & Quality Assurance:
Maintain consistent workflow efficiency and respond proactively to challenging cases or research procedures.
Produce high-quality diagnostic images that meet clinical standards.
Participate in department improvement initiatives, maintain a clean work environment, and support training for new staff and students.
Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Science or expected completion within three months of application.
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible at the time of hire.
Candidates must obtain advanced certification in CT within one year of employment.
Maintain HCP BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and ongoing continuing education as required.
Prior education and/or practical training sufficient to independently perform CT procedures and related imaging tasks.
Experience working in a healthcare environment or imaging center preferred.
Strong technical knowledge of CT imaging procedures and algorithms.
Excellent patient care and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with imaging systems including PACS and EMR platforms (e.g., EPIC).
Ability to work flexible hours, including rotating and variable shifts.
