Description:
SpaceX, a global leader in aerospace innovation, was founded on the belief that humanity’s future in space exploration is far more exciting than remaining confined to Earth. The company is actively developing technologies to make life multiplanetary, with Starlink being one of its most revolutionary programs. Starlink represents the world’s largest and most advanced broadband satellite constellation, currently providing reliable and fast internet service to more than 6 million users globally.
As a Data Engineer for the Starlink program, you will play a vital role in building the analytical and data infrastructure that powers the growth, reliability, and performance of the Starlink network. Your work will directly influence how SpaceX scales its internet systems and assesses network efficiency on a global level. You will collaborate closely with engineers, network experts, and data scientists to create powerful data systems and insights that drive decisions across the Starlink program.
Develop and maintain mission-critical infrastructure, custom tools, and data pipelines to assess Starlink’s growth areas and network performance.
Automate metric aggregation and detect widespread application or performance issues across the Starlink network.
Design and implement software systems for ingesting, transforming, and storing large-scale data from ground and space systems.
Apply advanced data analytics, statistical models, and algorithms to generate actionable insights from satellite and network data.
Lead investigations into recurring technical or application-level issues and propose data-driven solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including subsystem engineers, software developers, and external partners.
Create internal data catalogs and analytical tools for Starlink teams to efficiently access and analyze information.
Integrate multiple data sources to produce unified, high-quality datasets and actionable intelligence.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
At least 1 year of professional experience in software or data engineering.
Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.
Hands-on experience in analytics, data science, or machine learning applications.
Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark, Presto, Flink, or Snowflake.
Expertise with data storage formats like Parquet and working knowledge of Kubernetes.
Experience in designing ETL pipelines for structured and semi-structured data.
Ability to handle large datasets (terabyte-scale and above).
Experience in predictive modeling, anomaly detection, and clustering analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in dynamic, evolving environments.
Demonstrated initiative and capacity to acquire new technical skills independently.
Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Must meet ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance, which requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee, or asylee status.
