HealthVerity is seeking a Data Privacy Scientist to lead the charge in advancing data privacy innovations while ensuring regulatory compliance within the healthcare sector. Based in Philadelphia with a hybrid working structure, this role is central to developing and implementing HIPAA-compliant, privacy-preserving algorithms for large-scale healthcare and consumer datasets. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert on privacy risks and mitigation, applying statistical, technical, and regulatory knowledge to shape HealthVerity’s privacy posture and influence the broader data governance landscape.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, privacy law, and healthcare innovation, contributing both internally and publicly through industry thought leadership.
Lead and advise internal teams and external clients on HIPAA compliance and privacy strategies
Design, implement, and optimize de-identification frameworks such as k-anonymity, l-diversity, and k-concealment for structured and unstructured data
Conduct privacy risk quantification and mitigation using advanced statistical modeling and information theory
Create and manage Expert Determinations and ensure privacy certification of HealthVerity's data workflows
Collaborate with engineers to embed privacy-preserving protocols into production environments
Develop scalable tools and algorithms for automated privacy enforcement across big data pipelines
Build features for SaaS and DaaS products related to privacy, including data classification, anomaly detection, and discovery
Represent HealthVerity at industry events and through publications, conferences, and thought leadership
Success will be measured by the ability to:
Complete Expert Determinations within a 3-month timeframe
Advise teams and partners on privacy compliance
Develop and deploy scalable automation tools for ongoing privacy assurance
Contribute to product development with integrated privacy solutions
Drive HealthVerity’s visibility and thought leadership in the privacy and health data community
Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, privacy frameworks, and de-identification techniques
M.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, or related discipline (or B.S. with 5+ years of privacy-related experience)
Advanced skills in statistical modeling, information theory, and risk quantification
Proficiency in C, C++, or Python programming
Demonstrated ability to manage privacy determinations independently
Experience creating scalable models in production environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with encryption protocols, secure multiparty computation, and probabilistic AI
Hands-on experience with privacy UDFs, data transformation pipelines, and quality enforcement tools
Prior contributions to the privacy research community (publications, talks, open-source)
Primary location: Philadelphia, PA (3 days/week in-office hybrid model)
