Data Security Attorney

Description:

Holland & Hart LLP is seeking an experienced attorney to join its dynamic Privacy & Data Security team in either the Denver or Boulder office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to engage in high-level client advisory work while growing within one of the leading firms in the Mountain West region.

The selected candidate will advise and counsel clients across diverse industries on privacy and data security compliance, diligence in M&A transactions, risk assessments, breach response and mitigation, artificial intelligence, and other complex privacy matters. The role involves navigating intricate regulatory frameworks, drafting detailed privacy policies, and ensuring clients safeguard sensitive data in various legal and commercial contexts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert legal advice on consumer privacy and data security matters.

• Counsel clients on compliance with CPA, CCPA, CPRA, COPPA, FCRA, FERPA, GDPR, GLBA, HIPAA, TCPA, and other data protection laws.

• Conduct legal research to remain updated on evolving privacy regulations.

• Draft and review privacy notices, policies, terms of service, and compliance documents.

• Support clients in developing and implementing privacy compliance programs.

• Assist with data breach notifications and response strategies.

• Collaborate with internal and client teams to align privacy compliance with business goals.

Candidate Requirements:

• At least 3 years of relevant experience at a top national or international law firm.

• Proven expertise in privacy and cybersecurity laws, with strong technical compliance knowledge.

• Excellent communication, analytical, research, and writing skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on complex projects.

• Willingness to engage in in-person teamwork and demanding client work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One or more IAPP certifications.

• Experience counseling clients, drafting compliance documentation, disclosures, and policies.

• Demonstrated expertise in data breach investigations, notifications, privacy assessments, and data mapping.

• Experience drafting and negotiating data protection and security terms in commercial contracts.

• A creative, adaptable mindset with strong problem-solving ability.

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role is 200000 – 265000 USD annually (16666 – 22083 USD monthly), with performance-based bonuses, fee splits, and clerkship bonuses for eligible candidates. Associates are expected to invest 1800 billable hours annually, with additional commitments to pro bono, diversity, and community engagement initiatives.
