Department Of Urology

Description:

The University of California, Los Angeles invites applications and nominations for a nationally and internationally recognized urologist to join the faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) as Chair of the Department of Urology. As a preeminent clinician, scholar, and leader, the candidate will also be considered for The Fran and Ray Stark Foundation Chair in Urology.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and the Dean of the DGSOM and to the President and CEO of the UCLA Health system via Executive Medical Director, the Chair works collaboratively with clinical, academic, and administrative leaders to establish and execute the strategic vision of the Department of Urology within the greater medical enterprise. The Chair is responsible for advancing the Department’s mission of excellence in clinical care, education, research, and community engagement through the development of educational programs, research and innovation, oversight of clinical operations, financial management, staffing, performance improvement, faculty recruitment, and the strengthening of community partnerships. In addition, the Chair cultivates a collegial, inclusive, and multidisciplinary culture consistent with the principles of the DGSOM’s Cultural North Star, providing mentorship to faculty members, while also upholding UCLA Health’s patient-experience model, CICARE, and promoting clinical quality, safety, and operational distinction.

With a diverse research portfolio, a robust residency and fellowship program, strong partnerships with the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and clinical sites from Santa Monica to Santa Clarita as well as at Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital, the Department of Urology at UCLA comprises a distinguished cadre of approximately 48 faculty members across seven divisions, including Andrology, Endourology, General Urology, Kidney Transplantation, Pediatric Urology, Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, and Urologic Oncology. The Department is one of a handful of programs in the country that offers kidney and pancreas transplantation, and the National Institutes of Health has designated UCLA’s prostate and kidney cancer programs as centers of excellence. The Department’s endowment of $48 million includes eleven endowed chairs, a residency endowment, and a faculty research endowment. The Department is deeply committed to providing quality, compassionate care to a diverse population and is a part of the UCLA Health Gender Health Program which has received recognition as an LGBTQ+ Health Care Equity Leader from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation since 2017. The Department collaborates closely with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Institute of Urologic Oncology, and hyperbaric medicine, among others.

Located on the campus of an internationally renowned research university with a $1 billion research portfolio, the Department of Urology is uniquely poised for transformational cross-disciplinary innovations and leading-edge surgical research, including collaborations with the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering to pioneer new methods of delivering care.
