Design Engineer

Description:

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

Open to Canadian Residents who are willing to commute to their US primary work location at least 60% of the time.

OVERVIEW

The GM Control Algorithm Design/Development Engineer is to develop and implement control algorithms used in Automotive Fuel Cell Systems (FCS).

We encourage Work Life Balance and support a FLEXIBLE Schedule!

The GM Control Algorithm Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

  • Design and develop control system concepts for fuel cell systems (FCS) and the related components.
  • Design & develop feedback control algorithms for fuel cell based power systems including water management, stoichiometry, pressure and thermal control.
  • Characterize process dynamics of subsystems via control relevant dynamic modeling. Interface with hardware design and test engineers to develop test plans to generate control relevant dynamic response data. Employ underlying physics and/or model based on empirical data via use of system identification tools for parameter identification.
  • Apply such models for offline controller simulation to investigate controller design options.
  • Apply dynamic models as observers for un-measurable dynamic states.
  • Develop fault diagnostic algorithms to detect sensor/actuator malfunctions and develop remedial strategies. Employ use of statistical techniques.
  • Perform algorithm validation using offline plant models. Define tests to benchmark control algorithm capability to follow setpoint, reject disturbances within a typical automotive drive cycle. Develop controller performance assessment metrics.
  • Works closely with multi-disciplined engineering teams to understand functional requirements and implement appropriate control solutions.
  • Develops algorithms and tests implementations using Matlab/Simulink.
  • Uses a model based software development approach that utilizes both graphical and traditional software development methods.
  • Generates "C" code from models using auto-coding tools.
  • Tests and debugs software using models, controller hardware and system hardware
  • Provides technical direction to support personnel
  • Execute product plans with appropriate technical guidance
  • Travels as required
