Design Review Engineer

 

Description:

Atlas Copco is seeking a qualified and highly experienced Design Reviewer/Quality Leader to join its engineering team based in Rock Hill, SC. This is an on-site, full-time role focused on ensuring that all technical, regulatory, environmental, and legal aspects of product development and quality are met during the lifecycle of a new product. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining robust quality and design processes while guiding cross-functional teams through a rigorous Concept to Product (C-to-P) development framework.

As a Design Reviewer and Quality Lead, you will serve as a critical point of control between innovation and implementation, driving compliance, product excellence, and market readiness. You will be accountable for coordinating design review activities, validating project documentation, and enforcing quality standards across all engineering and manufacturing processes.


Key Responsibilities:

Design Review & Project Governance:

  • Evaluate design submissions for quality, technical accuracy, and adherence to Atlas Copco standards across both new projects and existing product lines.

  • Champion the C-to-P 2.0 process, guiding local teams and collaborating with divisional reviewers to ensure consistent practices.

  • Organize and lead design review meetings during all project phases, ensuring unbiased assessment and advising Product Commercial Managers (PCM) on project viability.

  • Review project milestones and determine go/no-go decisions based on evidence and documentation.

  • Ensure all engineering documents such as DRQ, DFMEA, PFMEA, production passports, service reviews, and compliance documentation are accurate, thorough, and aligned with divisional expectations.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure local engineering quality processes align with divisional standards (PLM, TCM, release protocols).

  • Validate regulatory, environmental, safety, and legal compliance of all products and manufacturing processes.

  • Document feasibility reviews, master specifications, process qualification, pilot batch outcomes, and safety audits.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work with marketing and technical service teams to align engineering goals with business needs.

  • Provide guidance and feedback to supplier quality assurance (SQA) and ensure critical components and suppliers meet qualification standards.

  • Facilitate communication across global teams, participating in best practice exchange and joint development initiatives.

Reporting & Metrics:

  • Deliver monthly reports on project health, compliance, and progress to Engineering Managers.

  • Track and report key performance indicators relevant to design and quality leadership.

  • Escalate blockers and next-step items to leadership and functional heads monthly.


Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or Physics (Master’s degree preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years in mechanical engineering in a manufacturing environment

  • 5–7 years as a Project Engineer or at least 3 years as an NPD Team Leader

  • Strong familiarity with diesel engine technologies and portable equipment is a major plus

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of the Concept to Product (C-to-P) development lifecycle

  • Exceptional communication, documentation, and cross-functional leadership skills

  • Detail-oriented, committed to precision, and results-driven

  • Customer-focused mindset

  • High proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint

  • Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage)
