Location: Los Angeles, CA. Applicants living in other states will be considered, but they must be willing to relocate at their own expense.

Travel: Limited travel may be required on an as-needed basis.

Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by providing vital support services to school districts, and musical instruments to underfunded music programs nationwide, giving economically disadvantaged youth access to the many benefits of music education, leading them to success in school, and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music. GENERAL SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced development director to join a passionate and professional team at a vibrant national music education nonprofit based in Los Angeles.

 

The development director is a senior leader responsible for managing all aspects of the organization’s fundraising operations and advancing the mission of Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this role provides strategic leadership, oversees the full spectrum of fundraising functions, cultivates donor relationships and leads the development team. The Development Director manages the Development Associate; oversees volunteer engagement; and collaborates closely with staff, board members, and external partners to drive revenue growth and organizational sustainability.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of a comprehensive development strategy across all revenue streams.
  • Research, manage and maintain a portfolio of donors through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Oversee, directly manage and participate in grant writing and reporting.
  • Manage donor engagement and stewardship programs, ensuring a positive donor experience.
  • Develop and manage fundraising campaigns, events, and communication strategies.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Development Associate, supporting development operations, donor database management, and reporting.
  • Oversee and directly manage the recruitment and engagement of volunteers.
  • Create detailed development plans with timelines, budgets, and benchmarks to ensure successful implementation and achievement.
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate the effectiveness of development and fundraising initiatives, providing regular reports and presentations on key metrics, outcomes, and insights to the President & CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Participate in revenue and budget forecasting.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive social media strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with fundraising best practices, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as needed.

 

Qualifications

• Passionate about the mission of Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

• Minimum 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning abilities.

• Demonstrated success in securing significant philanthropic support.

• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, leadership and management skills.

• Advanced computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, eTapestry, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat, and other fundraising systems and platforms.
