Description:
The Director of Operations Engineering is a strategic leader responsible for driving operational excellence, innovation, and scalable engineering solutions across Radial’s fulfillment network. This role leads a team of engineers to deliver high-impact initiatives that improve cost efficiency, throughput, and client satisfaction. The Director will oversee the design and implementation of process improvements, client onboardings, automation strategies, and facility expansions while aligning engineering efforts with business goals. This role will report to the VP of Operations Support. Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team to achieve key goals and objectives on key initiatives and projects
- Develop and execute the long-term vision for operations engineering aligned with enterprise goals.
- Direct large-scale engineering projects including new facility launches, client onboarding, and system implementations.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to optimize fulfillment operations, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.
- Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on engineering strategy, capital investments, and operational innovation.
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable fulfillment solutions, including automation, layout optimization, and workflow redesign.
- Oversee new fulfillment center launches and support overall facility design exercises, manage new system and equipment installations, ensure safe and cost-efficient procedures are followed throughout the project duration.
- Manage and assist with new client launches and support the design of storage and processing areas, develop new workflows and procedures, work closely with vendors to procure equipment, and manage any required build-out or construction within the facility.
- Drive partnerships with MHE vendors and internal resources to obtain quotes to support new initiatives, develop recommendations for selected vendors, develop CapEx proposal for finance approval, and manage CapEx spending for approved projects.
- Manage capital planning, vendor selection, and execution of infrastructure and automation projects.
- Lead Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement initiatives across the network.
- Champion the standardization of project execution and develop standard operating procedures
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Leverage data analytics and modeling to inform strategic decisions and operational improvements.
- Partner with operations and technical teams to optimize system configurations and ensure seamless integration with operational workflows.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of engineers.
- Oversee staffing, including recruitment and retention, leadership and professional development, and performance management of direct reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in operations engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven success in leading large-scale fulfillment or supply chain engineering initiatives.
- Ability to understand and thrive in a high-volume work environment during extremely busy project seasons, with conflicting and evolving priorities, executing multiple projects simultaneously and providing guidance and leadership to team members
- Expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing capital budgets.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with WMS systems preferred.
- Proficiency developing metrics-based objectives, and executive reports (advanced knowledge of spreadsheets)
- Demonstrated ability to role model skills in handling client interactions, both operational and at the executive level
- Demonstrated ability to work in a Continuous Improvement mindset, standardize & automate work
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced, high volume warehouse environment is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop future leaders, coaching through complexity, and maintaining engagement across teams
