The Nido & Mariana Qubein Children’s Museum opened one year ago in downtown High Point and has welcomed more than 200,000 guests. Our first year has been an exciting one, full of learning, adapting and experimentation. The Nido & Mariana Qubein Children’s Museum was named North Carolina’s Visitor Attraction of the year by The NC Travel Industry Association. Opinions of our staff are valued and appreciated as our new museum continues to grow and build on our knowledge and successes. ​

We are looking for an enthusiastic professional who is passionate about creating innovative programming that engages children and inspires learning through fun.

This is a leadership position. Directors work about one weekend a month, rotating as a Manager on Duty.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in providing an environment that is welcoming and supportive for all guests and staff.
  • Design and develop a diverse range of exciting educational programs and activities that align with the museum's mission and cater to the needs and interests of children. (Our mission: “To provide a space of wonder, discovery and play for all children and families. We do this with a commitment to learning, inspiration and love of children as they explore our universe, earth and community.”)
  • Create, coordinate and facilitate museum programs and events (daily/weekly/monthly) focused primarily on STEM, literacy, art, health and physical activity.
  • Coach staff and volunteers on leading programs.
  • Collaborate with museum staff, educators, and community partners to create innovative and interactive learning experiences.
  • Stay up to date on the latest trends and best practices in early childhood education, STEAM education, and informal learning.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of educational programs, professional development workshops and events.
  • Ensure program delivery meets high standards of quality, safety, and accessibility.
  • Manage program schedules, resources, and budgets.
  • Supervise and coach staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, educators, and parents regarding educational programs and resources.
  • Create and maintain an educator database with emails and addresses to share about the museum and special events.
  • Oversee field trips. In addition to field trip programming, assist with coordination, scheduling and payments.
  • Monitor the field trip check-in process.
  • Prepare and disseminate pre- and post visit materials to educators.
  • Secure feedback and adjust to feedback to ensure the field trip experience is the best possible.
  • Develop and implement evaluation strategies to measure the impact and effectiveness of field trips and programming.
  • Collect feedback and make data-driven recommendations for program and field trip improvements.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining museum policies and procedures.
  • Publish field trip info on our website and social media and share with schools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Experience in staff supervision, training, and development.
  • Experience in program development and management, preferably in a museum or educational institution.
  • Strong knowledge of child development theories, educational principles, and best practices in informal learning.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including staff, educators, parents, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in using technology and software for program development and evaluation.
  • Passion for children's education and a commitment to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments.
