Disability Access Services Supervisor

Reporting to the Director of Disability Access Services, the Disability Access Services Supervisor oversees the provision of support services and accommodations for all students with disabilities, especially students who are D/deaf or Hard of Hearing and those who use equipment/furniture accommodations ensuring that Spokane Community College (SCC) is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Reauthorized Rehabilitation Act, the ADAAA, and Washington Core Services Act. This position works under general direction and will be responsible for assisting with creating and implementing DAS policies, procedures, and budgets and is responsible for supervising qualified Interpreters for D/deaf students and the coordination of these services with faculty and departments.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee services and accommodations for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. Forecast student needs, coordinate and schedule SCC and contracted interpreter services. Monitor interpreter availability, student course schedules, program/course syllabus, manage frequent schedule changes and adjust accommodation plans accordingly. *
  • Supervise hourly and classified interpreters (train, schedule, evaluate, discipline and respond to grievances). Adhere to classified contracts and all district rules and regulations ensuring all essential services are provided efficiently and effectively. *
  • Inform and educate staff about behavior and performance expectations, provide timely and accurate feedback regarding performance, and ensure performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly and effectively. *
  • Ensure that both SCC and contracted interpreters are supported to provide high quality interpreting services. Collaborate with contract vendor and evaluate the effectiveness of vendor services. *
  • Conduct intake and accommodation planning meetings for new, current, and returning DHH students, determine communication access needs, review, evaluate and determine appropriate interpreters and other accommodations for students and monitor student progress. Assist students with accessing other student services as needed. *
  • Support the provision of real-time transcription and closed captioning accommodation services for students. Act as liaison with faculty and outside vendors for these services. Collaborate with eLearning to establish and promote accessibility. *
  • Monitor equipment and technology available for DHH students. Determine the needs of students and recommend the purchase of specialized equipment as needed. *
  • Provide oversight for all DAS accommodation equipment. Ensure that adequate and appropriate accommodation equipment is available for students, repairs and updates are performed regularly, and that records are maintained. *
  • Analyze and manage budget expenditures related to services for DHH students. Forecast trends and costs for accommodation services. *
  • Oversee interpreting services and assistive technologies related to communication for DHH students in online and rural settings; Coordinate with appropriate campus partners to implement accommodations. *
  • Assist the Director with reviewing and implementing policies and procedures. *
  • Collaborate with the Lead SCC interpreter to facilitate placement of SFCC Interpreter Training Program (ITP) practicum students and interns. Plan for SCC to participate in ITP exit interviews *
  • Maintain confidential files and records as defined by HIPPA and FERPA. *
  • Provide classroom and departmental presentations of services for students with disabilities, especially as related to serving DHH students. Disseminate information regarding DAS services to faculty, staff, students, the public and outside agencies. *
  • Research and develop materials for students and faculty using Universal Design Principles for instruction/interaction with students with disabilities. *
  • Represent the department and participate in committees, task forces, and other CCS/SCC workgroups as assigned. *
  • Participate in DAS and disability specific training for continuous ongoing improvement/professional development. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *
