Description:

The Education and Engagement Coordinator plays a supporting role in promoting student engagement with the museums, assisting with the coordination of museum programming, and overseeing student employees and ambassadors. The person filling the position will accountable for the following:

  • Working closely with museum staff, university departments, and community partners to develop, implement, and oversee the museum's schedule of public programs.
  • Engaging in best practices for bringing diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion, as well as decolonizing principles, to all museum programs.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising student employees, gallery attendants, and student docents, including managing student schedules to ensure staffing needs are met during gallery open hours and for all public programs.
  • Creating, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive training program to impart knowledge and skills for student employees and interns.
  • Overseeing the Museum Ambassador program.
  • Assisting with the coordination and facilitation of Colgate class visits to exhibitions and collections. Facilitating museum visits for a variety of audiences, including student organizations, K-12 groups, life-long learners, and community groups.
  • Assisting with the development of a comprehensive training program to impart knowledge and skills for student employees.
  • Attending meetings with other departments, programs, and institutes on campus to encourage collaborations.
  • Performing other job related duties as assigned.


Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience in a museum or other arts or cultural institution, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to decolonizing, equity, and inclusion practices, preferably in a museum context.
  • Ability to work collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to think creatively.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, Adobe Creative Cloud applications).
