Nebraska Medicine is offering a paid internship opportunity for motivated individuals interested in launching a career in diagnostic cardiology. As part of the Heart Monitoring Unit (HMU) Internship, candidates will train for the role of Non-Invasive Cardiology Technologist while gaining practical, hands-on experience working as an EKG Technician.

Internship Structure:

  • Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours/week

  • Shift: Two 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM), variable days including weekends and holidays

  • Location: On-site in the Omaha Metropolitan Area

  • Availability Requirement: Full open availability required; schedules vary weekly

  • Duration: Six-month paid training period

  • Outcome: Promotion to Non-Invasive Cardiology Technologist upon successful completion

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform adult and pediatric EKGs

  • Apply and manage Holter monitors and cardiac event recorders

  • Transcribe test results into the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

  • Engage in advanced arrhythmia recognition and rhythm analysis (post-training)

  • Study provided materials and pass multiple assessments during the internship

  • Collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and healthcare staff

Eligibility Criteria:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA endorsed program)

  • Willingness to work on-call and weekends/holidays

  • Ability to complete a structured internal training program within 6 months

  • Commitment to testing into the Cardiology Technologist role post-internship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of EKG or general medical experience

  • College coursework in anatomy, physiology, or related fields

  • Associate of Science degree

  • Graduate from an accredited allied health/technology program
