Electrical Engineer

SpaceX, founded with the vision of enabling human life beyond Earth, is seeking an Electrical Engineer, Facilities (Starlink) to support its Starlink Production Facility in Bastrop, Texas. This role will be central to ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the site’s electrical distribution systems. The engineer will lead initiatives to troubleshoot, evaluate, and enhance electrical infrastructure across the facility, covering substations, switchgear, lighting, UPS, VFDs, Motor Control Centers, and generators.

The position requires managing projects from design to execution, driving continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design system upgrades, optimize operations, and oversee new installation processes that support the expansion of Starlink’s global mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide engineering expertise in design, operation, and troubleshooting of facility electrical systems including load flow analysis, grounding, and power monitoring.

• Coordinate downtime activities with maintenance, construction, and production teams to minimize operational disruptions.

• Lead electrical distribution improvement projects and apply advanced detection techniques.

• Conduct arc flash studies, breaker coordination, and manage system load and capacity.

• Oversee procurement and contractor management for electrical system upgrades and maintenance.

• Support facility technicians with troubleshooting and repairs.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to maintain and optimize electrical infrastructure.

• Ensure installation, operation, and maintenance meet performance and compliance standards.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical engineering with medium/high voltage systems.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of professional experience with commercial/industrial power systems.

• Expertise in electrical distribution systems (<600Vac), transformers, MCCs, switchgear, lighting, and grounding.

• Familiarity with critical power systems such as UPS, generators, and automatic transfer switches.

• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and IBC standards.

• Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and manage construction projects, budgets, and schedules.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit (beginner to intermediate).

• Strong multitasking skills and ability to perform in fast-paced environments.

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required.

• Physical capability to work in varying environments and lift up to 25 lbs.

• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
