Electrical Engineer Intern

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is offering an exciting internship/co-op opportunity for Electrical Engineering students in its refining operations. The position provides hands-on exposure to industry best practices, refinery operations, and cross-disciplinary engineering teamwork. Interns gain critical thinking skills, familiarity with electrical engineering in a refinery setting, and experience with project management, reliability analysis, and process control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work in Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) projects supporting refinery operations.

• Troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues, analyze equipment failures, and develop solutions.

• Participate in process control system support, including programming, hardware/software replacement, and system monitoring.

• Assist with project management activities including scope alignment, cost and schedule development, and cross-team collaboration.

• Gain exposure to Refinery Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Arc Flash studies.

• Develop written and verbal professional communication skills through project documentation and presentations.

Candidate Requirements:

• Major in Electrical Engineering

• Strong academic performance

• Authorized to work in the US full-time without employment visa sponsorship now or in the future

• Valid driver’s license

• Availability for spring, summer, and fall semesters; multiple work terms preferred

• Military experience is a plus

Compensation & Benefits:

• $32.31 - $40.89 per hour
